Been Trying

_

Been trying
to change our fate

Forcing life to take my direction
Because I was taught hope is never lost

Thinking how to change your thinking
When never could I
  mine…

Thus, you would forgive me
I would forget
And we would start
all over again

Because I was taught
 we must forget the past
Enjoy the present
Dream the future

Been trying,
Been
failing.

Hi... Love your poem and that picture is absolutely wonderful.... I love it! At 19 I was in a relationship with a girl and we loved each other deeply. We would fight and argue and break up so tumultuously, but it seems like we always got back together. After 8 times we finally realized, it wasn't the right love. Does that make sense?

Ah lost love, how sad it is... but keep trying. The poem is beautiful.

keep trying again...don't give it...it's worth the hard work... heartfelt and raw..

Yes, I echo everyone else, never give up because it's in the pain that we learn from our mistakes to get it 'right' (hopefully) next time.
Heartfelt prose.

Nice way of sorting through things here. Yeah it's a big question if there's anything to predetermined destiny, think about it often. But yeah I think living in the past, while in some instances can be useful, for the most part it's detrimental to the future. Really well written and thought provoking, great read, thanks

Yes try try and try some more, show despair the door..haha Things are only as predetermined as we let them be.

I think we all try at times, and all fail...but we keep trying....well done :)

Sometimes it doesn't work, but maybe when we stop trying so hard it does.

Very relatable. Nicely done. I also love how the photo fits with the poem. My favorite stanza:

"Because I was taught
we must forget the past
Enjoy the present
Dream the future".

Thanks for sharing.

Been trying too. Your words ring so true. Not everything can be accomplished with forced or forgotten.

I love that the painting is hopeful amid the questions and toiling. Sometimes, in just a moment everything turns for the better again, kind of like how a terrible storm sweeps in for a moment and ends just as swiftly. Wonderful expression of the struggle that can plague a relationship. I don't know if I mentioned this before, but I really like your new look. Lovely :)

I understand this trying to change someone else's thought process. Like swimming up stream.

Great writing, Dulce. I really like this one.

Know that feeling, Dulce--but I still agree with everything you say here. You have to lay the ghosts of the past before you can live in the now.

an unhappy speaker & story…sadness prevails. Don't know the infraction(s), but it doesn't matter.
is this a prayer? a personal confessional? don't know, but it doesn't matter.
what matters is, the future looks bleak; hope or not.

good poem. thanks.

it's a vicious circle, but we keep trying because we can. and there's always hope...

Dulce, a good poem, deeply thoughtful.

You did write:
"...I was taught
we must forget the past..."

In my favorite book, Alcoholics Anonymous, page 83, I am told “...If we are painstaking about this phase of our development, we will be amazed before we are half way through. We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness. WE WILL NOT REGRET THE PAST NOR WISH TO SHUT THE DOOR ON IT....”

Of course I agree, this moment is all I really have with certainty...and the future of what others do I cannot change--only what I choose.

Dulce, sorry to (again!) wax philosophical here, but I DO respect your thoughts and words, time after time. Hope you have another "Sweeter Day", Peep! Take care, and SMILE!

keep trying and keep failing,

love the last line, true, the issue is that humans keep searching the meaning of life, which is a promising and trail blazing process, we fail, then we get some, it is a revolving process.

your words inspire, keep it up.

It is what we hope for, what we want to believe in. It is what is right, it is not what happens.

That small boat is being held in the storm.
It is in failing that we learn things of value.
Trying - sounds a little strained to me. How about resting in yourself and finding the treasure there?
Your words are beautiful and speak volumes.
