SUGAR

Collecting single glances
Of a recent past
About to metamorphose
   Into a long ago

The tune I can hum
But the lyrics are gone.

So the grass is kissed by the wind
That scene brings back
The bizarre peace
I  had forgotten
   Long ago...

When sugar was just sweet

Already long ago
    pain evolved into a habit
And letting go
Into a captive freedom

And what only happened to others
Began to knock at my door
And stayed for coffee

And that fragile innocence
Changed into bitter taste

Despite all that sugar...

Too much sugar leads to rot, they say.

Happy Boxing Day, Dulce.

Your poem reminds me of the lines from Romeo and Juliet.
'The sweetest honey
Is loathsome in his own deliciousness
And in the taste confounds the appetite.
Therefore love moderately: long love doth so;
Too swift arrives as tardy as too slow.'

If a composer wrote music such as you have written "SUGAR"...she'd be very happy and satisfied.

Verb metamorphose I like. Also two lines, so deeply thought:

'Letting go evolved into captive freedom' AND...'what only happened to others began to knock at my door and stayed for coffee.'

Excellent writing, Dulce!

Funny how in former times we think of others situations and can't imagine, for whatever reason, ourselves falling into such scenarios. Well written, Dulce. And the image has the perfect amount of crystals.lol Was reading your "best 10" Some excellent work, my friend. Cheers

Ooops! Also love those ice crystals in background. Yeah, right! Me and ice and snow and cold (shivering now at midnight here)get along fine--if I'm watching it all in the cinema.

excellent write - excellent choice of words and metaphor and i can feel your heart - like losing something - for me it has the same feeling as my poem "lost coins"and probably is on the same topic though i fight hard not to lose it..

New backdrop -- symbolising Dulce, is it? Sugar . . . Can I say this was bittersweet inspite of sugar?

Joy always,
Susan

some of the changes that happen, we wish had never. If only we could go back to that time when there was no sadness no loss, no hurting.
Then, if we could, would we have truly lived?

El azucar es sinónimo de dulzura, aunque a veces, esta, pueda empalagar...

It seems the bitter flavors always linger... but if we just keep some sugar inside our mouths and not swallow too eagerly, the sweetness inevitably remains. Just lovely!

Hehee Dulce you'r so bad! Sugar can be really bad for you, too much of a good thing, but thankfully the taste is so sweet it leaves us just wanting more. As do your words!

Incredible picture! If only we could stop time and know when things will turn from sweet to sour!
