Thus, He Tells...

The Butterfly Bringer, by Lee Anne Kortus

He is as old as the mountains
All bones and skin
But in his eyes you can see
                     He is ageless, actually.

Can’t remember the last time
He had a look at a mirror
Only, ever since
It started to lie back at him

For, while his body followed its route
                                                  His wisdom took another
                                            High up
                                        Beyond those mountains

And he does as he likes
When he likes
No commitments
           Except for himself
No rush
                          Except to slow down

And wherever he stops and sits
There’s always
           a bird, a butterfly
            a tree, a child
                   to listen to
His magic
Timeless
                                                          Never ending stories

Thus, he tells….

"No commitments
Except for himself"

May our schedules in the New Year contain many such commitments!

DULCE!
Please read the whole comment this time.

At the first, all I viewed was the image of what looked to be an old Don Carlo, who already has many stories yet untold--some not yet lived--grin!

Spreading butterflies?...that is for others to decide. My 'real' stories are of living, making mistakes, learning, loving, and passing it on, what I have learned

This post convinces me of what I shall write next, which is copied from a comment (mine) on your blog several days ago:

"...Ya know, it slowly is dawning on me that you, Dulce, are probably the best writer on these pages. You are especially gifted in the perception and expression of the beautiful or lyrical, at times musical, evoking nearly always pictures of life as most of us deal with daily living, on life's terms."

Thank you for 1.5 years of giving service and pleasure here.

As you wrote,
"..But in his eyes you can see
He is ageless, actually."

Beautiful, Dulce, as always. Love the way you wound the poem up and down the page, like a road circling a mountain. Speaking as an old person, I can say with accuracy that you've captured very well the ambience of age--No commitments/Except for himself
No rush/Except to slow down

Happy New my dear Dulce. You have always written so much between my visits it takes me ages to catch up with you. I really don't know where you find all the talent.

this piece is intriguing. Not sure if you are describing someone or is a character of the imagination or a book. But in any case, the image you paint makes me want to sit there to listen to his stories.

A beautiful look at someone we love growing older, wiser and more serene. Years do increase peace within us and we are able to be more patient and generous. You have captured that quality well here. Thank you. Gay @beachanny

So beautiful--and he is like so many of us, with a story to tell wherever we go...

Amazing when we bother to listen, when someone comes near and we take the time!

Glynn said...

It's lovely - and it appeals to the storyteller in all of us because, thus we tell...

Zuzana said...

That is truly beautifully poetic, the endless youth in our mind and soul, no matter what our body might show, our perception can tell and entirely different story...
Thank you so much for stopping by my place and for your absolutely lovely words, looking forward to have you back.;)
Happy New Year to you and yours,
xoxo

Your poem bring out the quality of wisdom and mystery of the magical "vagabond" in the painting. Excellent way to describe one discard who may seem counterpart to a Cassandra of sorts. Happy New Year, Dulce!

this is so tempting... tempting to know how important this way of being is for us all...to be...to live...to grow old without caring but for the good of life...the taste of life.

I echo Gerry's comment. That line is superb - one that the mind absorbs and keeps safe.
This is a truly great poem, together with the old man.

And Moondust is right in that you do spread butterflies with words.

My dear followers, blogger friends...

Your reactions are to me
Sweeter than all the words
I choose to be
Or the pics I so carefully
Choose to fit...

Thanks a lot for your comments
