PERFECT

What we strive

And never reach...

Excellent

Blameless

Immaculate

Must we stand out

Be so different

Or be as similar as possible

As those we consider

Pure

Ideal

Spotless?

Must we accept

Or refuse

That we are not

Prudent enough

Tolerant enough

Splendid enough

To be perfect?

The point, perhaps, is to be both happy with one's place and unwilling to rest there. Where we falter is in self-judgment until we reach that impossible level of perfection. We can be happy with our efforts, and refuse to stop learning and improving.

So meaningful, what you write.

Oh, who wants to be be perfect? I have tried so many times and failed, Dulce. The idea is not to be perfect, but to perhaps feel comfortable in our skins... comfortable enough to live each day as it should be lived... without regard for perfection... but only for peace of mind.

Am loving your philosophical reflections, these days, Sweetest!

My thoughts are, in general, along the lines of 'Shakespeare's' comment.

Also, it is wonderful to be who we are, but there is always more to discover, hidden away and truly amazing when revealed.

And ... I love it that others are different.

Your poem is doing what poems do - provoking thought. Thank you for provoking mty thoughts.

Perfection means to come to an end (I heard that somewhere), and we never end, so what's the fuss!
Let it all hang out, and get more,

perfection seems a pointless goal...in ourselves and others...

The idea of perfection is a flawed one, the very idea of something that is "perfect" seems, ironically, imperfect to a lot of people. Perfection, as Brian says, is a pointless goal. But the tenacity of the human character, to strive towards greatness, is not.

Alexander Pope: "To err is human, to forgive divine".... To strive is human nature, just as making errors ... Can't have one without the other... Excellent piece...

Perceptions of perfection varies for different individuals. I would strive for sure. I also know that I cannot attain it but nevertheless I try. In trying I find comfort than sitting idle.

Have a soulful Sunday dear Dulce.

A kiss for your son as well :)

Love and joy,
Susan

I believe that we are perfect in every way.

It is our perceptions that are skewed.

Perfection is boring, right Primita? That's why we're imperfectly made! lol

Seriously, a magnificent poem...as close to perfection as you can possibly get! :)

I love what nevine said but... i think and this is concept that in our own way... each of us is perfect and sometimes when we try to change it, thats where it becomes foggy....

Good questions! I for one am trying only to become more "myself". To me, that would be "perfection".

I am perfectly imperfect.

"Be prefect, even as your father in heaven is perfect..."

if you do a little research on the 'perfect' used here it has to do with being complete, whole. the goal is not to be without mistake (can;t do that) but to move through life with an increasingly complete self - version of you.

That is what Life demands of each of us.

In regards to poetry?

YOU are Perfect!

This we know but still try and fail over and over until we dont care to be perfect anymore and accept ourselves and others for who they really are...

Perfect enough....I don't need perfection to an extreme. I can take a few warts as long as basic good predominates in the world.

I like this poem very much!
I admire your choice of words, your fluency; it is pure beauty!

Whenever I read your blog you inspire me so much! I hope one day I find the words and express my feelings in such a great way as you do! (Don't worry I will not copy you)
